Internal diseases

Internal diseases are common in pets. There are many diseases of the liver, kidney, adrenal glands, pancreas, the gastro-intestinal tract, the urinary system and genitals. Examinations of internal diseases usually always include an analysis of blood and urine samples, X-rays and ultrasound scans, and often also follow-up visits and samples afterwards to ensure that the treatment is working.

Examples of common internal medicine conditions include thyroid disorders (hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and tumours), pancreatic diseases (e.g. diabetes mellitus, pancreatic insufficiency, and pancreatitis), liver diseases (gallbladder disorders, tumours, and inflammation), gastrointestinal diseases (chronic diarrhoea, malabsorption disorders, various inflammatory conditions, and tumours), kidney diseases (kidney failure, tumours, and inflammation), urinary tract problems (infections, urinary stones, and tumours), splenic abnormalities, and disorders of the uterus and prostate.

All of our vets can examine and manage patients with internal diseases. In addition to this, Zach is our veterinarian with special expertise in internal medicine. When needed, fine-needle or biopsy samples can also be taken from internal organs, as well as endoscopy of the gastrointestinal tract or bone marrow samples.
